Wheel & Cross - Spring Equinox
The last two weeks have been bereft of any work in the garden. Rainy days were interspersed with blustery days and a couple of fair and sunny days. The Saxifragas and Corsican mint didn’t survive the thrashing winds. Happily, the Digger’s Club seeds and wormwood arrived, though I’m worried about finding time to create space to plant them all.
Very sadly, we had to put our darling Tin Tin to sleep on the 5th. His old body gave in at the start of the week, there was no point prolonging the inevitable and causing him distress. We are so lucky to have wonderful vets, they came to the house and helped Tin Tin pass quietly and peacefully. I have his ashes by the fireplace, ready to bury when I’ve sorted out the memory garden under the Mulberry tree.
In the Garden This Week
In the garden, the daffodils started to fade at the same time the tulips began to blossom, while the white plum tree blossoms gave way to the hot pink nectarine blossoms and the riot of colour cheered my aching heart. I also found a dead bird attached to the back windshield wiper of my car. The iNaturalist app shows the bird to be a Pardalotte. I hope I get the chance to see live Pardalottes in the garden.
Great Content
I came by this video through my Substack Subscription to Death in the Garden. It is a lovely and hope-inspiring mini-documentary about the power of small acts of kindness and love.
